With the multitude of businesses and public sector organisations having to shift to remote working, one of the difficulties they are facing is the provisioning of end-user devices in a consistent manner, particularly if they have a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. This takes time for employees, as well as the IT department’s time – and it involves configuration and waiting around while productive time and resources are being lost.
Autopilot allows organisations to develop zero-touch solutions for all Windows 10 devices that come onto their systems. Once IT develops the SOE and configuration through Azure AD, a user can get any device with a clean (or reset for redeployment) Windows install, connect to a network, enter the organisation’s credentials, and the customized SOE is set up on the device.
Once deployed, Windows 10 devices can be managed by Microsoft Intune. Windows Autopilot can also be used to re-purpose a device by leveraging Windows Autopilot Reset to quickly prepare a device for a new user, or in break/fix scenarios to enable a device to quickly be brought back to a business-ready state.
